7 Places You Shouldn’t Forget to Clean During Your Spring Cleaning

Are you looking to have a spring clean in the near future? If so, do you want some advice on areas you shouldn’t neglect?

Having a good spring clean can do wonders for your home and even your health. When you clean all corners of your house, you get rid of unwanted germs, dust, and bacteria that can be harmful.

But, many people miss key areas when cleaning and so aren’t left with a healthy home. And, if you don’t focus on these, it can cause some big issues.

So, it’s important to be aware of commonly overlooked places, so you don’t make the same mistake.

By knowing this, you’ll be left with a tidy and healthy home that is more inviting. It’ll make you want to spend time in parts of your house you normally avoid and will encourage you to invite guests over.

So keep reading, and we’ll share seven places you shouldn’t forget during your spring clean.

1. Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures

First on our spring cleaning checklist are many objects overlooked by many- ceiling fans and light fixtures.

It’s important you realize that both of these are a magnet for dust. In fact, if you ran your finger over them, you would be surprised at how much dust comes off.

Also, if you suffer from allergies, this may be why. As the fan spins, it can blow dust around the room, which will cause you to sneeze, cough, and rub your eyes.

So, make sure you break out the duster and wipe all of it off as you go from room to room. Then afterward, vacuum underneath to scoop up any dust you may have missed.

2. Curtains and Window Blinds

Curtains and window blinds need to be cleaned at least once a year.
They accumulate dust as well as dirt that comes in from outside. Plus, they can even be a breeding ground for mold due to condensation.

Many people wash the windows during a spring clean but totally forget about the curtain and blinds.

So, before you wash the windows, remove them and give them a good clean. We recommend vacuuming the curtains before washing if you can. For the blinds, a good dusting and a wipe down with warm, soapy water should be sufficient.

3. Refrigerator and Freezer

Many of us are guilty of leaving rotten food in the back of our refrigerators. So, a spring clean is the perfect excuse to get rid of those unwanted items.

Go shelf by shelf and throw away that nasty expired food which is just taking up extra space. Then, take out the shelves and disinfect them to kill harmful germs.

Once you have done this, do the same in the freezer as well.

Finally, pull them out from against the wall and clean around the back. This is a place where dirt builds up, and people usually miss it.

Plus, you may find old bits of food which can easily attract rodents.

4. Clean the Microwave and Other Kitchen Appliances

People usually wipe down their kitchen worktops during a spring clean, but they forget about the appliances.

The problem with this is that most of them are used daily, and they can be filthy. Plus, a build-up of dirt can prevent them from working efficiently.

So, make sure you clean both the inside and outside of your microwave before wiping down other appliances like your coffee machine.

5. Clean Out Your Kitchen Cupboards

One of the best spring cleaning tips is to clean out your kitchen cupboards. These are often overlooked, and some people don’t clean them for years.

Just like your refrigerator, you should begin by emptying any out-of-date foods and drinks. Items can often get pushed to the back of the cupboards and left there for a very long time.

Once you have done this, give the shelves a thorough cleaning.

Start by wiping them with some hot, soapy water to get rid of any stains and spillages. You then need to dry them off with a clean towel before spraying with disinfectant and wiping again.

This is not only a great way to clean your shelves but, it will prevent pests and rodents from entering your home. After all, if no loose food is lying around, it’s not attractive for them.

6. Wipe down Desks and Keyboards

Computer keyboards are a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. Most people don’t wipe them down when house cleaning and would be horrified if they knew what was lingering on them.

So, whilst doing your spring cleaning, ensure you wipe down your keyboard and mouse with suitable cleaning products.

Then wipe down your home office desk as well. This can be just as dirty as the keyboard and is another area that’s often neglected.

7. Dispose of Old Medicines

If you check your bathroom cabinets right now, you’ll likely find out-of-date medicine.

Not only does this take up valuable space but, it can be dangerous. If you inevitably take some old medicine, it can damage your health.

So, whilst cleaning your bathroom, remove the expired medicine and safely dispose of it.
