5 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks Everyone Should Know

In a recent poll, only 34% of homeowners claimed to clean their bathroom on a weekly basis.

Most homeowners abide by the “out of sight, out of mind” policy when it comes to the cleanliness of their bathroom. But neglecting to properly clean this room in your home can lead to the development of dangerous germ problems.

Instead of looking at bathroom cleaning as something you have to do, you should view as something you want to do to keep your family safe. Luckily, there are a variety of bathroom cleaning hacks that can make this job much easier.

Here are five of them.

1. Baking Soda Makes Bathroom Cleaning Easy

Some homeowners think they have to use abrasive cleaners to get rid of grime and soap scum. The truth is you can use a bit of baking soda and ammonia to get rid of these unappealing substances.

By mixing three tablespoons of baking soda and a half of a cup of ammonia into two cups of warm water, you can blast away grime and soap scum. All you have to do once you’ve mixed this concoction is wipe it on with a sponge and rinse it away.

2. Make Toilet Cleaning Easy

Cleaning the toilets in a bathroom is something most people try to avoid for as long as they can. Using a few household items can make this type of cleaning easier and more successful.

If you want to get your toilet bowl sparkling clean, drop either one denture cleaning tablet or two antacid tablets in the water. Once you have let the tablets dissolve for about twenty minutes, you can wipe the toilet bowl clean.

You can also use a can of cola or a cup of mouthwash to break loose the grime in your toilet bowl. Once you scrub the bowl, all you have to do is flush it and walk away.

3. Clean Your Bathroom Ceiling with White Vinegar

If you are like most homeowners, the ceilings in your bathroom are not something you think about regularly.

Usually, the ceilings in this room will be covered with mildew and dust. Filling a bucket with equal parts water and vinegar is a great way to remove these unsightly spots from the ceiling.

Once you have your mixture made, you need to use a long-handled sponge mop to get it on the ceiling. While it will take a bit of time to cover the whole ceiling in the bathroom, it is worth the effort.

4. Restore the Appeal of Your Bathroom Tiles

Are the tiles in your bathroom looking a bit worn and dingy? If so, there are a number of things you can do to restore their shine.

Mixing up a paste with two parts baking soda, one part borax, and two parts water can be very helpful when trying to clean the grout in between your tile. Applying this mixture to the grout with a toothbrush can help you remove dirt and grime.

5. Lemon Juice Is Your Friend

Looking for a way to get the rust off of your sink? Squeezing a bit of lemon juice on the rust spots and then using an old toothbrush to scrub it is a good idea.

If the rust is particularly stubborn, you may have to mix in equal parts turpentine and salt to remove it.
